The innovative achievements in basic scientific research and applied basic research are mainly published as articles in related specialized periodicals.The Journal of Glaciology and Geocryology has been experienced for 31 years since its start,which is concentrated on glaciers,frozen soil and the relevant issues.In this article,the detailed bibliographic data obtained from database are used to analyze the publication current of the Journal of Glaciology and Geocryology in the three decades.Through quantitative analysis of articles' number,discipline classification,study area,core-authors group and hot spots of research,the annual variations of these indices have been illustrated,and so do the research content and direction,research institutions and researchers' distribution.The results indicated that in the recent three decades,the number of articles published in the Journal of Glaciology and Geocryology presents a swift growth tendency,especially since the implementation of Knowledge Innovation Project in Chinese Academy of Science;the related research institutes show very obvious region correlativity,mainly concentrated in the surrounding areas of glacier and frozen soil regions.Recently some comprehensive colleges and universities join in,indicating that the domestic attention on glacier and frozen soil is strengthened day by day;glacial geomorphology,permafrost,climate change,Tibetan Plateau and Qinghai-Tibet Railway are the five highest frequency
Key words:,of which climate change is the highest one for 11 years,indicating it is a hot spot of research in Journal of Glaciology and Geocryology.The results of bibliometric analysis of the literatures cited from Journal of Glaciology and Geocryology show that both the citation frequency by CSCD and SCI and the influence factor increase unceasingly,which further explains that the attention of academia to glacier,frozen soil and the relevant issues is going up unceasingly.However,the core author group of Journal of Glaciology and Geocryology has not really formed,because of the new researchers' jointing in,and the experienced ones intending to submit their articles to oversea highly-influencing journals in order to enhance their international influence.This problem makes the Journal of Glaciology and Geocryology face new opportunity and challenge in the globally popularizing glaciers and frozen soil research achievements and journal's development.

Abstract Women’s history in glaciology extends as far back in time as the discipline itself, although their contributions to the scientific discourse have for all of that history been constrained by the sociopolitical contexts of the times. The first Journal of Glaciology paper authored by a woman appeared in 1948, within a year of the founding of the Journal , but it was not until the 1980s that women produced more than a few percent of Journal and Annals of Glaciology papers. Here international perspectives on women’s participation in the sciences are presented in order to establish an economic and sociopolitical context for stories of women ‘pioneers’ in glaciology and a frame in which to discuss women’s persistent under-representation relative to men. We find that the experiences of individual glaciologists mirror women’s experiences in higher education and the sciences as a whole. The existence of both positive and negative trends in women’s participation in the sciences suggests caution in the interpretation of recent positive trends for women’s participation in glaciology.

Abstract After the end of World War II glaciology entered a new golden age, which has yet to end. The quality of this golden age is comparable to the classic period of the nineteenth century. The International Glaciological Society has been the major catalyst, through its very active and co-operative international membership and its Journal of Glaciology in setting the modern major advances in the science of glacier and ice phenomena in motion and sustaining them.

This progress report is the first of three overviews of important fields of study within contemporary glaciology, illustrated with reference to exemplar research contributions and highlighting key developments in each field since 2005, the date of the last review of ‘Glaciology’ in this journal. The topics covered in this paper are: (1) the mass balance of glaciers and ice sheets and their contributions to global sea level change; and (2) atmospheric melt-induced influences on the dynamics of the Greenland Ice Sheet. The paper aims to provide an overview of key developments over the last six years from each topic, with discussion of the continuing debates and unresolved issues which constitute the foci for ongoing and future research.
