    Abstract:
The investigations of erosion in various landscape zones of the Earth's plains prove the existence of two basic systems of erosion: the channel and the basin ones. The principle distinctions of these systems show itself in structure of erosion processes and accumulation of their products, in hydrological regime of rivers, in character of dependence of specific suspended sediment yield on river basin area, in structure and thickness of alluvium, in relation between alluvium and slope sediments, in dynamics of river channels, in some features of river valleys morphology, in degree of preservation of relic landforms in the river basin, in general tendency of relief development (valley partition or planation), in intensity of sediment accumulation within the river channels and the flood-plains, ponds, and reservoir, etc. The present river channel system of erosion is divided into two subsystems: one of humid and semi-humid moderate latitudes and one of humid and semi-humid tropical and equatorial latitudes. The present basin system of erosion is also divided into two subsystems: anthropogenic one and natural (semi-desert, savanna, and sub-arctic zones) one.

This article gives some primary concepts about negative landforms and em-phasizes the importance of the landforms which have been overlooked for a long time, from three aspects as follows:(1) the real landform texture on the surface of the earth;(2) the two prime systems of landforms being as close as lips and teeth;(3) the important area of man's economic activities. It aims at calling attention to negative landform studies. Finally, it points outsix trends of negative landform studies:(1) the theoretical study of. negative landforms;(2) the study of negative landforms connected with positive landforms;(3) the study of negative landforms and landform development;(4) the study of negative landforms and landform prediction;(5) the study of negative landforms and landform mapping;(6) the study of negative landforms and land-management.

Based on introducing the origins of the concept of Zhangshiyan landform in this paper, five features of Zhangshiyan landform, the geological background and ancient geographical environment and the slope development models of wedge-shaped lateral cutting and horizontal digging are discussed,as well as the developmental stages of Zhangshiyan landform are analyzed. The differences among the Zhangshiyan,Zhangjiajie and Danxia landforms are discussed from lithology, the start position of slope development, dynamic process, the basic framework, and landscape shape, and so on.At last, the development and utilization history of Zhangshiyan landform are reviewed and analysed.
