Identification of Favorable Zones of Gas Accumulation via Fault Distribution and Sedimentary Facies: Insights From Hangjinqi Area, Northern Ordos Basin

Abstract:
The Hangjinqi area was explored for natural gas around 40 years ago, but the efficient consideration in this area was started around a decade ago for pure gas exploration. Many wells have been drilled, yet the Hangjinqi area remains an exploration area, and the potential zones are still unclear. The Lower Shihezi Formation is a proven reservoir in the northern Ordos Basin. This study focuses on the second and third members of the Lower Shihezi Formation to understand the controlling factors of faults and sedimentary facies distribution, aimed to identify the favorable zones of gas accumulation within the Hangjinqi area. The research is conducted on a regional level by incorporating the 3D seismic grid of about 2500 km 2 , 62 well logs, and several cores using seismic stratigraphy, geological modeling, seismic attribute analysis, and well logging for the delineation of gas accumulation zones. The integrated results of structural maps, thickness maps, sand-ratio maps, and root mean square map showed that the northwestern region was uplifted compared to the southern part. The natural gas accumulated in southern zones was migrated through Porjianghaizi fault toward the northern region. Well J45 from the north zone and J77 from the south zone were chosen to compare the favorable zones of pure gas accumulation, proving that J45 lies in the pure gas zone compared to J77. Based on the faults and sedimentary facies distribution research, we suggest that the favorable zones of gas accumulation lie toward the northern region within the Hangjinqi area.The Taohua Fe deposit is a sedimentary one.The Fe deposit is mainly controlled by sedimentary facies and paleogeography.This paper deals with sedimentary facies of host horizons and mineralization conditions for the Fe deposit.Sedimentary facies and paleogeographic map for the Fe deposit is compiled.

Accurate interpretation is conducted on profile seismic facies of Tiaohu Depression in Santanghu Basin , sedimentary facies conversion is made on four quasi-sequence groups based on its principles. The plane sedimentary facies and sedimentary evolution in Triassic-Jurassic system in Tiaohu Depression are analyzed in detail. The application of sedimentary facies features for studying the type of sediments, sedimentary environments and classifying sedimentary sequence has great significance for studying the type of reservoirs and evaluating the oil and gas resources.

ESTABLISHMENT OF THE THREE-DIMENSIONAL GEOLOGIC MODEL:TAKING THE ZARZAITINE OIL FIELD FOR AN EXAMPLE
Based on the multidisciplinary analysis of the sedimentary features and combined with the analysis and test data of the cores, logging and regional geologic setting data, and observation and description of the reservoir cores of the Zarzaitine Oil Field of Algeria have made. A study of the corresponding relation between sedimentary microfacies and electrical facies has resulted in a division into sedimentary facies of small lapers. According to the distribution features of the sedimentary facies, the space evolutional laws of the sedimentary facies of the reservoir(F4) in this area was analysed and a three-dimensional geologic model was established for the reservoir (F4) of the oil field.

In this paper,the sedimentary facies are grouped into fan-shaped sedimentary facies,sheet sedimentary facies and banded sedimentary facies based on the plane distribution patterns of sedimentary facies,and different buffer zone methods are used for different types of sedimentary facies.Based on the Walther's law of facies,we have analyzed the wells of known sedimentary facies types.Moreover,we have carried out the automatic analysis of the plane sedimentary facies for the wells with known sedimentary facies types by using computer-aided programming and replacement of manual works.The feasibility of this method was proved by the study of the sedimentary facies of K2 member in the Kongnan area of Dagang Oilfield.

Changlongshan format ion of N aproteroziic Era in Huailai Hebei is consists of rnainly a sedimentary assoriation of clastic rock with rich macroalgal forssils (Churaia). Studying the sedimentary environment will have an important significane to the ecology of rnacrtalgal organisrns and paleogeography evolution. Three sedimentary facies are tidal flat, shallowshelf and beach facies, which are established through the analysis lithofaies and the study geochernistry in the section. Therefore the sedimentary medel is raised on the basis of sedimentary facies analysis. The Changlongshan formation shows the cyclical accumulation of the three sedimentary facies, and consisting of two sedimentary equences of clastic rock. The evolution feature in the lower of sedimentary Sequences is from the tidal flat facies to shallow shelf facies,then back to beach system. The upper directly develope into the shallow shelf facies, then tobeah facies. The Chudria formed mainly in the offehore shale subfacies of the shallow shelf facies. Cimprehensive analysis shows that sedimentary environrnent of Changlongshan formation is the littoral and neritic sea controled by the tidal, sea wave and river.

The method of macro and micro geological evidence of the unification of sedimentary facies analysis is used,from the regional sedimentary background of the core material,combined with a field geological section,logging data,lithologic features,sedimentary structure characteristics,the sedimentary characteristics of facies pattern of Shanxi Formation are analyzed.In the research area of Shanxi Formation,three Sedimentary facies,five parfacies and ten sedimentary facies are obtained,In addition,the sedimentary characteristics and evolution of sedimentary facies of single well,profile of sedimentary facies of the well and the plane are shown as the basis,the sedimentary theory is used as guidance to determine the research area of Shan 1 Section which has a gentle sloping with shallow meandering river-delta-lakes facies pattern.The research provides a geological foundation for later exploration.
