It is shown that in the Taymyr folded region the collision and trap magmatism are spatially combined. In time trap magmatism is associated with late-collision and post-collisional stages. Supercomputer modeling showed the possibility of mantle and crust heating in the late stages of collision, accompanied by basaltic magmatism in a quite large amount.

To understand the origin of the Siberian Traps it is necessary to know the evolution of magmatism in space and time inside the Siberian Platform. It was suggested that volcanic rocks were formed in three stages: rift (OIB), intermediate and trap (WPB). It was studied rocks of the Tuklonsky, Nadezhdinsky and Morongovsky suits in the western part of the Norilsk area and found that they have no intermediate geochemical characteristics (major components and rare elements, especially La/Sm ratios) between OIB and WPB. Therefore, there are only two main stages in the magmatism evolution as the actual trapping stage began from Tuklonsky time.

Many geologists have been interested in the Okinawa Trough due to its unique tectonic environment. The magmatism is regarded as one of the key questions in the Okinawa Trough. The advances associated with the magmatism in the trough have been overviewed, including the studies about the characters of the magmatic sources, the processes of the magma melting and evolution and the regularities of melting.Based on these, the difficult questions on this field have been presented and a new idea that using the method of U-series disequilibria to study the magmatism in Okinawa Trough has been brought forward.Meanwhile, some research directions about the study of magmatism in the Okinawa Trough should be paid much attention to in the future,e.g.① the influence of the Philippine subduction slab on the magmatism processes,②the implications of the subducting sediment for the magma,③the controlling factors of the magma melting,④ the link between the magmatism and the seafloor hydrothermal activity.

Magmatism and Geodynamics presents a comprehensive review of the origin of magmas and their relation to geodynamic processes through the Earth's history by O.A. Bogatikov and three of his colleagues, V I. Kovalenko, E. V Shakov, and V.V.Yarmolyuk, from the Institute of Ore Deposits, Petrology, Mineralogy, and Geochemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The work presents a global view of magmatism and its geodynamic setting through geologic time, and is based primarily on Russian literature, although the authors have added an appropriate discussion of non‐Russian studies. The principal question the authors address is whether, and to what extent, the geochemical and tectonic setting of magmatism has changed during geologic time. This is a difficult task, because even at the present, no clear and detailed consensus has been established for the geochemical and structural setting of many igneous events. The authors are successful in illustrating significant changes in the structural environment of magmatism during the Earth's history although many of their conclusions represent a highly personal view and are more conjectural than based on solid evidence. Perhaps the most valuable asset of the book, therefore, is that it provides a rich and extensive review, although somewhat dated, of Russian petrologic literature not previously available in English.

Significant differences in the character of distribution of the initial strontium ratios ( 87 Sr/ 86 Sr)i between the medium acid and the acid magmatic groups (subgroups) of the late extensional magmatism are not observed. This fact may be discussed as indication for a common origin of the initial magmas from the different regions of distribution of this magmatism and of the peripheral magmatic chambers, respectively. The relatively low values of the initial strontium ratios ( 87 Sr/ 86 Sr)i for this magmatism is an indication for mantle origin. The higher values of this ratio in the initial phases of magmatism are probably a result of more pronounced pollution of the initial magma with crustal material. The latest phases of the magmatism, however, are weakly enriched or barren of crustal material and thus their initial strontium ratios e close to 0.704, which correlates with the values of this ratio for the contemporary mantle.

Place-time expressions of volcanism in the Caucasus and parts of the adjacent territories suggest migration of the centers of magmatism from region to region, in the dimension of time (Precambrian-Quaternary). In general, a weakening of tectonic-magmatic activity in a region runs concurrently with its intensification in some other region (not necessarily adjacent to the former). Deep-seated controls of such shifts may be reasonably suggested.
