    Abstract:
Abstract A fusuline fauna is described from the base of the Heshan Formation in the Penglaitan Section, the GSSP for the base Lopingian Series. This fauna falls within the Clarkina guangyuanensis and Clarkina transcaucasica conodont zones, indicating an early Wuchiapingian age. A new genus, Laibinella , is established to include those species that are morphologically similar to but phylogenetically independent of Palaeofusulina . In total, three species from two genera can be recognized in the studied material: Laibinella tobensis (Zhang), Laibinella ellipsoidalis gen. et sp. nov., and Lantschichites minima (Chen). The Laibinella tobensis Zone is established for the early Wuchiapingian. Based on morphology and biostratigraphy, we infer the evolutionary lineages of Dunbarula–Laibinella in the early Wuchiapingian, and Dunbarula – Nanlingella in the late Wuchiapingian.

Iranognathus sosioensis n.sp., a Changxingian (latest Permian) conodont species of western Sicily, is the youngest Iranognathus species occurring immediately below the Permian-Triassic boundary. The Middle Permian and part of the Late Permian pelagic conodont faunas of western Sicily are cold bottom-watter faunas, very dif ferent from the contemporaneous pelagic warm water faunas . The facial pretensions of I. sosioensis are not yet known.

This paper deals with the conodonts from the Shaiwa Group (the 3rd Member) in Sidazhai area, Ziyun County, Guizhou Province, South China, comprising 8 genera, 3 species, 1 conformis species and 6 indeterminate species. Based on the components of the conodont assemblage and the phylogenetic analysis of the Sweetognathus group, the conodont assemblage is of an age of Middle Permian (Maokouan), and the conodont-bearing strata are certainly assigned to upper Middle Permian. It implicates that the Shaiwa Group not only includes Late Permian sediments, but also late Middle Permian deposits.

The study of conodont biostratigraphy in central Jilin Province has made some progress in recent years. The depositional age of the Erdaogou,Shoushangou,Daheshen and Fanjiatun formations as well as Monodiexodinafauna has been determined by conodonts.New conodont data have been recovered from Jilin Province, but much more work remains, and there is virtually no information about Silurian and Devonian conodonts in Jilin Province.Future work should focus on the Shifeng,Wanyue, and Shihuiyao formations in the Yiyun area and on the Wangjiajie Formation in Yongji County. The Mopanshan section should be targeted for a detailed analysis of Carbonifeous conodont biostratigraphy. We recommend a more extensive collection of conodont samples, and greater efforts to improve fossil extraction techniques, especially for slightly metamorphosed rocks.

The Warsaw and Salem Formations in the Mississippi Valley area have produced a conodont fauna consisting of eleven genera and seventeen species, four of which are new. The fauna is relatively sparse and is numerically dominated by only two species, Gnathodus texanus and Taphro gnathus varians . Several sections of the Keokuk Formation yielded a fauna that is dominated by Gnathodus texanus . Otherwise the fauna is much like that of the Warsaw-Salem. Differences in abundance of conodont species seem to indicate that the units can be biostratigraphically subdivided.

Abstract Conodonts were common, widely distributed members of Late Permian and Early Triassic pelagic faunas and their minute skeletal elements have been recovered from a variety of sedimentary facies. Collections from sections including the Permian-Triassic boundary in important areas suggest that Late Permian and Early Triassic conodont faunas lacked diversity but included distinctive species of Anchignathodus, Ellisonia, Neogondolella, Neospathodus and Xaniognathus. All major Permian conodont stocks and most of the species known from latest Permian rocks passed the notorious Permian-Triassic filter with seeming indifference, hence there is no detectable change in conodont faunas at the level of the Permian-Triassic boundary in any of the presumably complete sections from which conodonts are currently known. Even so, a review of the distribution of these faunas suggests the outlines of a Permo-Triassic conodont biostratigraphy that may both supplement and complement the one based on ammonoids.
