Abstract Density modelling was carried out along five profiles oriented across the expected deep contact between the Bohemian Massif and the Internal Western Carpathians in western Slovakia. The density models reveal the continuation of the Bohemian Massif beneath the External and Internal Western Carpathians tectonic units. The eastern margin of the Bohemian Massif is situated at depth south-east of the surface outcrops of the Pieniny Klippen Belt and changes its position in the surveyed area. The contact of the Internal Western Carpathians with the Bohemian Massif and External Western Carpathians is subvertical. This sharp contact is manifested as the transtension to extension zone towards the surface.

Poludnikowy fotolineament w Rudawach Janowickich i jego znaczenie tektoniczne
The Thematic Mapper satellite image shows in the West Sudetes a N-trending double photolineament, roughly following the Rudawy Janowickie Mts. on the eastern flank of the Karkonosze Granite Massif. The double photolineament coinciding with polymetallic mineralization reflects likely an important fracture zone otherwise indicated by sedimentological and geomorphological data. This photolineament is characterized by its length (more than 80 km), longevity (Early Carboniferous through Recent) and location at the border of areas which have different geological history.

In the paper authors present some geological sites from Kaczawa Unit, Sudetes, Poland, and their interpretation in a geotectonic context. All described geosites are important for understanding the evolution of so called Kaczawa Accretionary Prism as well as whole Sudetes. Presented outcrops are easily accessible, well exposed and exhibits high education value. Special attention was given to the Wojcieszow Limestones and their relationship to the surrounding rocks

The boundary between the Saxothuringian and the Teplá-Barrandian zones at the western margin of the Bohemian Massif represents an important tectonic suture of the Central European Variscides. However, most of this boundary is covered by Late Carboniferous and younger sedimentary and volcanic rocks, which prevent direct observation of particular geological units. We present a compilation of geological and depth measurement data from 12,134 exploration boreholes that reached the basement of the volcanic and sedimentary infill in the area of the Eger Graben in the north-western Bohemia, and correlate covered geological units with those exposed on the present-day surface. The resulting compilation reveals the relief of the sedimentary basins basement and interprets the real extent of the basement geological units in the western part of the Bohemian Massif. It also shows the position of the contact between units with the Saxothuringian and the Teplá-Barrandian affinities and suggests the boundary between rocks with Devonian metamorphic record and those metamorphosed during the Early Carboniferous period of the Variscan tectonometamorphic cycle.
