Summary A significant part of the resource potential of Russia is located in the offshore part of the Kara Sea basin. We have carried out 3D regional basin modeling to determine the main hydrocarbon localization zones and the amount has not yet explored the resource potential of the Kara Sea basin. We have identified ten source rocks (SR). The quality and type of kerogen of these rocks are characterized by pyrolysis on the actual research. According to the simulation results we have obtained detailed heat model of thermal regime and vitrinite reflectance. Undrilled hydrocarbon accumulations are predicted in the Malyshevskaya and Vymskaya formations on Shchuchinsky, South Yamal and Eastern Novaya Zemlya highs

P237 EXPLORATION STRATEGY IN THE DONETS BASIN (UKRAINE): DEFINITIONS FROM THERMAL AND BURIAL HISTORY RECONSTRUCTIONS Summary 1 Coal mines in the Donets Basin (Ukraine) are among the gasiest in the world. As basic tool for definition of exploration strategy in the Donets Basin the numerical basin modelling technique was used. Organic maturity data (vitrinite reflectance) of coals and dispersed organic matter in the Carboniferous sediments were applied for the calibration of the simulated heat flows and to characterise magnitude of erosion and thickness of Carboniferous measures. Of particular significance to further exploration and development potential are sites of methane accumulations

The U.S. Geological Survey, using a geology-based assessment methodology, estimated mean volumes of technically recoverable, conventional, undiscovered petroleum resources at 84 million barrels of crude oil, 4.7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, and 130 million barrels of natural gas liquids for the Dnieper-Donets Basin Province and 39 million barrels of crude oil, 48 billion cubic feet of natural gas, and 1 million barrels of natural gas liquids for the Pripyat Basin Province. The assessments are part of a program to estimate these resources for priority basins throughout the world.
