    Paleocene sediments exposed at Nukhul, Sinai, Egypt were subjected to a detailed calcareous nannofossil biostratigraphy besides tracking changes in carbonate contents, δ 13 C and δ 18 O values.This Paleocene outcrop extends through the Dakhla -Tarawan formations.About 8.5 m of Dakhla F. consists of grey calcareous shale, and 2 m from the Tarawan F. consists of yellowish argillaceous limestone were investigated.Five calcareous nannofossil zones (NP2/3 -NP7/8) were delineated.The Late Danian Event was traced at a level characterized by an abrupt decrease in carbonate content and δ 18 O values, and minimum values of calcareous nannofossil's diversity and abundance that support warming conditions during this interval.The Danian/Selandian contact was placed in coincidence with the base of Zone NP5.No remarkable changes in lithology or in δ 13 C and δ 18 O values were noted close to this boundary except an abrupt drop in δ 18 O values just below it and increase in δ 13 C values slightly above this level.A distinct drop in carbonate content and calcareous nannofossil diversity was documented close to this boundary indicating warming episode.Calcareous nannofossils indicate a hiatus within Danian at Nukhul.The Selandian/Thanetian boundary was placed in coincidence with the base of NP7/8 combined Zone.No remarkable change in lithology, calcareous nannofossil assemblage, or δ 13 C and δ 18 O values were recorded across this boundary except the sudden drops in δ 13 C and δ 18 O values slightly below and above it.Calcareous nannofossils, δ 13 C and δ 18 O data reflect an upward increase in paleotemperature throughout the Paleocene at Nukhul.

    The authors have made detailed study and division on Silurian strata in the Xainza area,north-ern Tibet,determined the Silurian lithostratigraphic and biostratigraphic units and established the biostrati-graphic sequence.A four-fold division has been proposed for the first time and concrete opinions have been put forward for the determination of the location of the boundary between the Ordovician and Sil-urian.This provides an important basis for the study and division of the Silurian in Tibet and throughout China.

    The present paper deals with the lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy, and micropaleontology of the Tanjero Formation of the Dokan area, Sulaimaniah district, northeastern Iraq. The Tanjero Formation is middle-late Maastrichtian in age and is assigned to the Globotruncana aegyptiaca-lapparenti-stuarti Assemblage Zone, G. gansseri (part), G. contusa and Abathomphalus mayaroensis subzones. Forty-nine species assigned to 12 genera have been recorded, and the species belonging to the Heterohelicidae and Planomalinidae families are discussed and photographed.

    It is difficult to study the strata in the middle of the North Qiangtang Basin, because the natural condition is very poor there. The authors have detailedly researched the lithostratigraphy and biostratigraphy of Donghu,Hewanshan,Changshuihe and Bandaohu. Based on lithostratigraphy and fossil characters, the Upper Jurassic can be divided into two parts. The lower one is the Suowa Formation connsisting of limestones containing Lacunosella trilobatiformis Pentithyris vulgaris, Radulopecten fibrosus Gervillella aviculoides assemblages of Oxfordian age. The upper one is the Bailongbinghe Formation consisting of limestones and clastic rocks and containing Radulopecten scarburgensis, R.moondanensis, Cladophyllia qeibulaensis, Stylosmilia chaputi of Kimmerdgian Berriasian age. The establishing of the Upper Jurassic Bailongbinghe Formation is a new advance in the lithostratigraphical and biostratigraphical researches.

    The Upper Permian Changhsingian succession is well exposed in the northeast Beibei, Chongqing City. Base on materials collected from a section near Daijiagou, a detailed investigation has been conducted to study the lithostratigraphy and biostratigraphy of the Changhsing Formation. With a thickness of about 110.5m, the Changhsing Formation in this area is composed primarily of carbonate rocks rich in brachiopod fossils. 46 species belonging to 28 genera were identified. The authors used 5 criteria to distinguish brachiopod palaeocommunities. Three brachiopod palaeocommunities are recognized in the Changhsing Formation of the Beibei area. Three palaeocommunity ecostratigraphic zones are identified. These are, in descending order, the Uncinunellina-Peltichia palaeocommunity zone, the Haydenella-Perigeyerella palaeocommunity zone, and Oldhamina-Meekella palaeocommunity zone.
