A practical method to construct capillary pressure curves of reservoir using NMR logging date

A new method to construct the pseudo-capillary pressure curve using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) logging data is established. In this method, the displacement pressure can be predicted using the maximum relaxation time of T2 spectrum of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) logging. Next, the effective porosity and density of rock, calculated from logging data, are used to predict the maximum mercury saturation. Then the mercury saturation at displacement pressure point and threshold pressure point can be estimated according to empirical data. Thus, the four important points on the capillary pressure curve can be obtained, namely zero point, displacement pressure, threshold pressure and end point. Then, referring to the 4 pressure points above, the pseudo-capillary pressure curve is constructed in two sections with the dividing point of threshold pressure. The method is convenient especially for the evaluation of deep and complex formations where the coring is difficult. [Received: July 12, 2017; Accepted: December 15, 2017]

Insight-HXMT observations of jet-like corona in a black hole X-ray binary MAXI J1820+070

A black hole X-ray binary produces hard X-ray radiation from its corona and disk when the accreting matter heats up. During an outburst, the disk and corona co-evolves with each other. However, such an evolution is still unclear in both its geometry and dynamics. Here we report the unusual decrease of the reflection fraction in MAXI J1820+070, which is the ratio of the coronal intensity illuminating the disk to the coronal intensity reaching the observer, as the corona is observed to contrast during the decay phase. We postulate a jet-like corona model, in which the corona can be understood as a standing shock where the material flowing through. In this dynamical scenario, the decrease of the reflection fraction is a signature of the corona's bulk velocity. Our findings suggest that as the corona is observed to get closer to the black hole, the coronal material might be outflowing faster.

Characteristics of Jurassic mudstone overpressure and its control on oil and gas accumulation in Turpan Depression

The reservoirs discovered in the Turpan Depression are mainly distributed in the Middle Jurassic, some distributed in the Upper Jurassic, Cretaceous, and Tertiary. The characteristics of the mudstone overpressure are studied to reveal the relationship between reservoir distribution and mudstone overpressure. There are several overpressure mudstone cap-rocks in the depression, of which the most steady and the best one is in the Middle Jurassic Qiketai Formation. The distribution of reservoirs in the Jurassic and the sequences above is dominantly controlled by mudstone overpressure. In the regions without mudstone overpressure, reservoirs are often destroyed because of frequent fault activities. Reservoirs have different dependence on the overpressure mudstone sealing. Overpressure mudstone seals oil reservoirs indirectly, although it seals gas reservoirs and gas-cap reservoirs directly. Without rock salt or gypsum in the multicycle basins in West China, mudstone overpressure plays an important role in hydrocarbon accumulation and reservoir preservation.

Three-Dimensional Simulation of the Fracture System Distribution in Formation Rock Based on Fractal Method

During exploitation process of fractured reservoir, the complex distribution of natural fracture system may lead to a series of accidents, such as sand plug and multi fracture extension in hydraulic fracturing operation.Considering the difficulties of numerical analysis on formation rock mass fracture system distribution, three-dimensional geometry model of a single fracture formation is proposed in this paper, and fractal geometry method is introduced to build the three-dimensional fractal description model of formation fracture system distribution.On this basis, the effects of fractal parameters on natural fracture porosity, permeability and other properties are analyzed.The results show that: First, the number and propagation of natural fracture are controlled by the fractal dimension, the number of groups and the initial quantity.Second, the fractal dimension of natural fracture distribution has an obvious effect on natural fracture porosity and permeability.Third, porosity and permeability of natural fracture distribution both experience exponential growth as fractal dimension increases.Fourth, when the fractal dimension remains constant, the porosity and permeability of natural fractures both increase with the fracture scale.
