Magmatic and Hydrothermal Evolution of the Weilasituo Sn Polymetallic Deposit Recorded by the Li and O Isotope Compositions of Zinnwaldite

The Weilasituo Sn-polymetallic deposit is bound to a 140 Ma old alkali-feldspar granite that intruded into Ordovician to Silurian biotite-plagioclase gneisses. The various magmatic (cassiterite) and hydrothermal (tin-tungsten, molybdenum and copper–zinc) stages are commonly interpreted to be directly related. We test this hypothesis. Zinnwaldite is present in all mineralization stages. Our Li and O isotope data demonstrate: (i) fractional crystallization alone cannot explain the observed variation of δ7Li in the magmatic cassiterite stage; (ii) Li-rich melts with high δ7Li are the result of multiple fluid-fluxed remelting of earlier crystallized granite; (iii) hydrothermal fluids did not exsolve from the most evolved rocks; (iv) separate batches of hydrothermal fluids result in heterogeneous isotope compositions of zinnwaldite. Our results demonstrate that magmatic and hydrothermal mineralization in Weilasituo deposit cannot be described by a simple and straightforward magmatic-hydrothermal evolution process. Instead, there were different batches of melts and fluids.
