High CO₂ Adsorption on Amine-Functionalized Improved Mesoporous Silica Nanotube as an Eco-Friendly Nanocomposite

New improved mesoporous nanocomposite CO2 adsorbents IMSiNTs-PEI (IMP) were synthesized by improved pretreatment of natural halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) and impregnation of improved mesoporous silica nanotubes (IMSiNTs) with polyethylenimine (PEI). The new improved mesoporous morphology remained the same as the HNTs morphology, but the specific surface area (340.61 m2/g) and pore volume (0.499 m3/g) after treatment, respectively, were about 7 times and 2.5 times more than those values for HNTs. The results indicate that more active groups were created on the IMSiNTs surface compared with HNTs. Also, an adsorption apparatus was used for analyzing the impact of various ranges of pressure, temperature, and loaded PEI amount on adsorption capacity. The results showed an increase in uptake capacity with increasing pressure and also a decrease in uptake capacity with increasing temperature exhibiting that the nature of the processes is exothermic. On the other hand, the proper PEI dispersion inside the IMSiNTs could improve the adsorption capacity and the highest adsorption capacity of 7.84 mmol/g was obtained at 20 °C and 9 bar for IMP-30 PEI. It was also demonstrated that these adsorbents have high thermal stability, good reversibility, and stability during adsorption/desorption cycles.

Hypercrosslinked waste polycarbonate to remove heavy metal contaminants from wastewater

In this research, the waste polycarbonate was hypercrosslinked during the Friedel-Crafts reaction to eliminate metallic ions from the wastewater solution. The experiments for inspecting the adsorption behavior of lead and cadmium ions were conducted at the initial concentration of 20-100 mg/L, contact time of 10-80 min, temperature of 20-80 °C, and pH of 6-11. The isotherm, kinetic, and thermodynamic models have been used to explain the behavior of the metal ions removal process. The correlation coefficient and adsorption capacity of the kinetic model for cadmium ion have obtained 0.995 and 160.183 mg/g, respectively, and the correlation coefficient and adsorption capacity of the kinetic model for lead ion has obtained 0.998 and 160.53 mg/g, respectively, which declared that the cascade was not monolayer. The correlation coefficient of the Freundlich is calculated at 0.995 and 0.998 for Cd and Pb, respectively, indicating the resin plane was not homogenized. The n constant for cadmium and lead ions has been calculated at 2.060 and 1.836, respectively, confirming that the resin is not homogenized, and the process has performed well. Afterward, the values of enthalpy and Gibbs free energy changes were obtained at - 7.68 kJ/mol and - 0.0231 kJ/mol.K for lead ions, respectively, which implies the exothermic and spontaneous state of the process. The values of enthalpy and Gibbs free energy changes have been obtained at - 6.62 kJ/mol and - 0.0204 kJ/mol.K for cadmium ions, respectively, which implies the exothermic and spontaneous nature of the adsorption. Also, the optimal empirical conditions for lead and cadmium ions have been found at a time of 60 min, temperature of 20 °C, initial concentration of 100 mg/L, and pH of 10. At a time of 45 min, the diffusion coefficient and mass transfer coefficient for lead ions have been calculated at 0.1269 × 10

Adsorption of cadmium (II) and nickel (II) on dolomite powder

In this work, the adsorption behavior of cadmium and nickel was studied using natural dolomite powder. The adsorption experiments were carried out to investigate adsorption parameters including metal ions concentration, solution pH, contact time, and temperature using a batch technique. The equilibrium adsorption isotherm data of the metal ions adsorption were best described by Freundlich, Langmuir, and Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm models. The adsorption capacity was obtained 1.46 and 1.70 mg/g for cadmium and nickel, respectively. Kinetic studies revealed that the initial uptake was rapid and equilibrium was established in, 120 and 105 min for Cd(II) and Ni(II), respectively. The results showed that the data followed the pseudo-second-order reaction. Thermodynamic analysis showed that the adsorption of the metal ions on dolomite is feasible and exothermic. The mean free energy values obtained using the Dubinin–Radushkevich model for the ions showed that the adsorption of nickel and cadmium ions onto dolomite occurs via a physical process for all the temperatures.

The potential of Ti3C2Tx-KH2PO4 and Ti3C2Tx-chitosan in the efficient removal of cesium from nuclear wastewater

Ti3C2Tx is synthesized from Ti3AlC2 by two common methods, HF and HF in situ. The synthesis approach is very practical regarding the structure, morphology, space between layers, type and number of surface-active sites and its specific surface. XRD, SEM, EDS, FTIR and BET analyzes were used to investigate the structure, morphology, type and number of surface-active sites. Under the operating conditions of cesium initial concentration ~ 150 ppm, ambient temperature, pH ~ 7.00 and time of 60 min, the cesium adsorption intensity with Ti3C2Tx-HF and Ti3C2Tx-HF in situ was obtained as 194 and 219.5 mg.g− 1, respectively. The structural results of modification with KH2PO4 show that in this modification, in addition to the increase of hydroxyl functional groups, the distance between the layers has also increased and the cesium adsorption intensity has increased to 338.75 mg.g− 1 under the above operating conditions. Meanwhile, in modification with Chitosan by increasing the frequency of functional groups and specific surface up to 3 times the effective specific surface of Ti3C2Tx-HF in situ, no significant change in the cesium adsorption intensity has been observed (247.5 mg.g− 1). Experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of parameters of initial concentration of Cs+ (250 − 50 ppm), time (30–60 min), ambient temperature (298.15–318.15 K), solution pH (3.0–11.0) with the help of RSM design. RSM results show that the pH parameter is one of the most important parameters affecting the cesium adsorption intensity with Ti3C2(OH)x and Ti3C2(OH)x-KH2PO4. Also, with the increase in temperature, the adsorption intensity should increase. It is shown in the isotherm modeling that R2 matches well with the Freundlich isotherm model, which is based on the layered structure of Ti3C2(OH)x and Ti3C2(OH)x-KH2PO4 and the presence of active sites with different energy levels, which leads to heterogeneous adsorption. The consistency will be of the adsorbent selectivity investigation shows that the Cs+ hydration radius plays a decisive role in its high adsorption potential. Reduction of MXene by 0.1 M HCl was carried out in 3 steps. The experimental results show that 15% absorption has been achieved in the third stage. The results of structural analysis show that its structure has not changed and the reduction of active sites as a result of washing with acid has led to a decrease in adsorption.
