La zona de cizalla de Campillo: accidente tectónico a escala continental en el suroeste del Macizo Ibérico

We describe the main features of the Campillo shear zone, a band of intense deformation made of mylonitic to ultramylonitic rocks bearing a vertical foliation and subhorizontal stretching lineations. The shear zone is more than 2 km thick and extends along more than 100 km representing one of the largest tectonic structures of the Ossa-Morena Zone, comparable to the Badajoz-Cordoba Blastomylonitic Belt. Its longlasting activity and influence on the paleogeography and stratigraphy of a number of sedimentary sequences allow to consider the Campillo shear zone as an exceptional example of a continental-scale rectilinear high-angle fault zone within the Variscan orogen.

The Neoproterozoic Mozambique Belt in the Gol Mountains (N Tanzania): Structural Analysis of Amphibolite and Granulite‐Facies Nappe Tectonites From a Crustal Orogenic Channel

Abstract A structural analysis of the Gol Mountains of North Tanzania is presented in which we identify and characterize a sheet‐like deformation‐localization zone of regional scale. Syn‐metamorphic rock‐deformation within the localization zone gave rise to widespread tectonite development under high‐T in lower‐mid crustal realms. Regional foliations and mineral/stretching lineations, and associated non‐coaxial mineral petrofabrics can be correlated with ductile flow shear planes. At the macro‐scale these structures are genetically connected with tangential movement zones involving large a‐type and sheath folds, thrusts and ductile shear zones, and hydrothermal quartz megaveins plastically deformed. The dimension of the area affected by this structural style is c. 30 km across the Mozambique Belt and >50 km parallel to it. The associated tectonic displacements likely attained several tens of km in the context of an overall W‐directed tectonic vergence transversal to the Mozambique Belt orogenic trend. It is interpreted as a segment of a mid‐lower crustal orogenic channel active during late Ediacaran amalgamation of the Congo‐Tanzania Archean Craton (and its discontinuous fringe of Paleoproterozoic and Mesoproterozoic orogens) with the amalgamated arcs and terranes of the Arabian‐Nubian Shield.

Petrography and geochemistry of late- to post-Variscan vaugnerite series rocks and calc-alkaline lamprophyres within a cordierite-bearing monzogranite (Sierra Bermeja Pluton, southern Iberian Massif)

The Sierra Bermeja Pluton (southern Central Iberian Zone, Iberian Massif) is a late-Variscan intrusive constituted by cordierite-bearing peraluminous monzogranites. Detailed field mapping has allowed to disclose the presence of several NE–SW trending longitudinal composite bodies, formed by either aphanitic or phaneritic mesocratic rocks. According to their petrography and geochemistry these rocks are categorized as calc-alkaline lamprophyres and vaugnerite series rocks. Their primary mineralogy is characterized by variable amounts of plagioclase, amphibole, clinopyroxene, biotite, K-feldspar, quartz and apatite. Broadly, they show low SiO 2 content (49–56wt.%), and high MgO+FeO t (10–17wt.%), K 2 O (3–5wt.%), Ba (963–2095ppm), Sr (401–1149ppm) and Cr (87–330ppm) contents. Field scale observations suggest that vaugneritic rocks and lamprophyres would constitute two independent magma pulses. Vaugneritic dioritoids intruded as syn-plutonic dykes, whereas lamprophyres were emplaced after the almost complete consolidation of the host monzogranites. In this way, vaugnerite series rocks would be an evidence for the contemporaneity of crustal- and mantle-melting processes during a late-Variscan stage, while lamprophyres would represent the ending of this stage.

Se diferencia un basamento Cadomiense y una cobertera Paleozoica, ambos cubiertos en varias areas por depositos Cenozoicos fluvio-lacustres. Desde una perspectiva geodinamica destaca: 1: Basamento correspondiente a un arco volcanico (ZOM) y su cuenca tras-arco (ZCI); 2: Cobertera Varisca asociable a un margen continental con sedimentacion somera en la ZCI y sector septentrional de la ZOM y una plataforma mas distal en la ZOM meridional; 3: Dos episodios orogenicos; uno Cadomiense responsable de la estructuracion mas importante, mas otro varisco en el que rejuegan las estructuras previas; 4: Rifting Cambrico medio; y 5: Manifestaciones igneas en toda la region relacionadas con los tres eventos citados. La estructuracion de toda el area estudiada esta condicionada a lo largo de toda su historia por una cinematica lateral izquierda, con directrices poco variables, una fuerte compartimentacion de la deformacion y una dilatada duracion en el tiempo. EnglishThe 1/250.000 scale geological map of Extremadura comprises wide sectors of Central-Iberian (CIZ) and Ossa-Morena (OMZ) Zones. There can be identified a Cadomian basement and a Paleozic cover, both covered in some areas by Cenozoic fluvio-lacustrine deposits. From a geodynamic point of view stands out: 1: a basement corresponding to a volcanic arc (ZOM) and its back-arc basin (CIZ); 2: a Paleozoic cover related to a continental margin with shallow sedimentation in the CIZ and northern areas of OMZ, and a more distal platform in the sourthern OMZ; 3: two orogenic episodes, one Cadomian, responsible of the main structuration, and other Variscan, which reactivates some of the previous structures; 4: a Middle Cambrian rifting; and 5: widespread igneous activity related with the three aforementioned episodes. The structuration of the whole studied area in conditioned by a left lateral kinematic during all its history, with non-variably directrix, a markedly compartmentalized deformation, and long-lived duration.

The Almendral massif is located in the north-western branch of the Olivenza-Monesterio antiform (Ossa Morena Zone, Iberian Massif, Spain). The pluton is composed by gabbros, sienites and alkaline granites which define an alkaline/transitional association. This magmatism marks the transition between the Cadomian orogenic regime and the Pre-Hercynian intracontinental rift for this sector
