The Wrexham area applied geological mapping
project (Contract No. PECD/7/1/290) was
commissioned in 1988 by the Department of the
Environment on behalf of the Welsh Office, and
carried out by the British Geological Survey.
The objectives were to provide cover of modern
geological maps for the Wrexham area and to
present applied thematic information on geological
conditions as they relate to planning and
development. The main results of the study are
given in Hains (1991).
The present report gives an account, as required
in the contract schedule, of the techniques used
for the production of the computer database and
the preparation therefrom of applied maps.
Conclusions are recorded on the suitability of the
systems for application in further applied
mapping studies.
